What is Eat Stop Eat?
Eat Stop Eat is a complete guide to intermittent fasting for health and weight loss. Written by Brad Pilon, this intermittent fasting book was the first of its kind and talks about the various benefits to cyclic eating. The guide explains how you can lose weight fast and get in shape without much physical exertion.
Instead of limiting your plate, this book encourages restricting the timing of your meals as a way to get to your ideal, healthy weight.
After reading Jason Fung's The Complete Guide to Fasting, I purchased Eat Stop Eat, which is mentioned on page 213 of Fungs Fasting book.
I love how in-depth Brad Pilon goes into all the research. Where Jason Fung's book leaves off and lacking in some detail, Brad Pilon's book was the perfect follow-up for the details I was craving!
Eat Stop Eat is basically divided into two parts. He does not number his chapters so I will give page numbers. I see pages 1 to 112 as being Part 1 and pages 113 to 189 as Part 2. Part 2 is about how to apply a 24 hour fast to your life style and Part 1 is all about the years of research and science behind fasting and how it affects different hormones and parts of the body.
In what I call Part 2 of the book, Pilon does not give advice about what to eat, but rather WHEN to eat and WHY.
This is a great book to follow Jason Fung's book: The Complete Guide to Fasting. I also recommend other books by Joel Fuhrman, Michael Gregor, Caldwell Esselstyn, T. Colin Campbell and others like them. While I have not eliminated animal products entirely, I do try to eat mostly whole-food, plant-based, nutrient-dense foods with limited animal products ("flexitarian") like green leaves, vegetables, fruits, beans, whole grains, nuts, seeds, mushrooms, onions, berries, "G-BOMBS", and the like.
While not as much in-depth research as Brad Pilon's book, I thought The Fast Diet book by Mosely was alright and an interesting approach [mentioned on page 214 of Fung's book]. It does not quite stress "autophagy", but I can see how people would like the 5:2 approach as a way to ease into 24-hour fasting or a sort of "middle ground".
Anyway, I am grateful for Brad Pilon's book Eat Stop Eat. I highly recommend it. I hope you have benefited from my review in some way.
